Why pay more for Lithium?
Despite the higher initial cost of lithium-ion batteries, the actual cost of ownership is much lower than that of lead when considering service life and performance.
Lithium is durable,
Lithium batteries provide up to 10 times longer life than lead-acid batteries, and still provide 80% of the nominal capacity after 2,000 cycles.
Lithium-ion batteries maintain their voltage throughout the discharge cycle. This allows a greater and more lasting efficiency of the electrical components.
Lithium-ion batteries are one-third the weight of lead-acid batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries are almost 100% efficient both in charge and discharge, which allows the same hours of amps both inside and outside. The inefficiency of lead batteries leads to a loss of 15 amps while charging and rapid discharge reduces the voltage quickly and reduces the capacity of the batteries.
Lithium ion batteries discharge at 100% versus less than 80% for lead acid. Most lead-acid batteries do not recommend more than 50% depth of discharge.
Lithium-ion batteries cycle 5000 times or more compared to only 400-500 cycles in lead acid. Cycle life is greatly affected by higher levels of lead acid discharge, compared to only slightly affected by lithium ion batteries.
Despite the higher initial cost of lithium-ion batteries, the true cost of ownership is much lower than that of lead acid when considering duration and performance.
Lithium-ion batteries are a much cleaner technology and are safer for the environment.
